HP Announce New PCs and Laptops

HP unveiled their new generation of all-in-one PCs. The new HP TouchSmart family of PCs feature HP software designed specifically for touch control. A finger tapped or swept across the high-resolution screen delivers quick access to information, entertainment and social networks. Without using a keyboard or mouse, consumers can play music and create playlists, zoom in or out of photos, and quickly check the weather or watch TV. These all-in-one devices would appeal to folks who dont have a lot of room and who really want a lot less clutter. The Wireless mouse and keyboard only add to the minimal experience offered by the Touchsmart Series. The HP TouchSmart IQ504 PC and the TV-tuner equipped IQ506 PC are expected to start at $1,299 and $1499.

HP also announce 16 new laptops, including the business-centric EliteBook premium series, which now arrives in a new slate of sizes and configurations. A new selection of Pavilion based Entertainment notebooks the dv4, dv5 and dv7 all of which feature with ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection. Samsung SPH-9000 - New Mobile WiMAX Gadget!

Operated at Microsoft Window XP, SPH-P9000 provides users with capability to access wirelessly using Mobile WiMAX or EV-DO technology. EV_DO, a broadband wireless data standard adopted by many CDMA mobile phone service providers, is much faster as compared to EDGE on GSM cellular networks. Further equipped with a 5 inch WVGA LCD screen, 1GHz CPU, 30GB hard disk, 256MB RAM and QWERTY keyboard, the users can experience seamless connectivity with such a great gadget on the move.

WiMAX, which is also known as IEEE 806.16e standard, has a similarity to wireless 802.11a/b/g but is far more powerful in terms of bandwidth and the radius that it could reach. Conservatively, it is capable of offering users with typical throughput of 70 Mbps up to a radius of 50km.
The SPH-P9000 will be launched in Korea first half of 2007. With the availability of WiMAX infrastructure, we should expect to see more wide range of similar gadgets in the market in the near future.

Apple announces patch for notebook battery issue

MacBook or MacBook Pro users must be much relieved to here that the company has finally come up with a solution to resolve the battery issues related to performance, such as shorter than usual battery life or problems charging the battery. The company has issued some software updates in the Apple menu and its website and has advised the owners of the above mentioned note books bought after February 2006, to download these software updates.

The company has also mentioned on its website that in case the fix doesn’t work, notebook users should contact Apple to have their battery replaced if they notice the following symptoms.

• Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
• Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
• Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
• Battery pack is visibly deformed.
The issues are just related to the performance of the product according to the company.

Asus Eee PC T91 Pictures Roundup

The much awaited Asus Eee PC T91 finally hits the market few days ago, and there are already several reviews done on this first convertible touchscreen netbook. Based on all the feedback from the reviews, the Asus Eee PC T91 netbook is just an average machine.






On the good side, the Asus Eee PC T91 is cheaper than most other tablet netbooks out there in the market. The battery gives around 3:30 - 4:25 hours of usage, which is one of the best among all tablet netbooks. Also, the Eee PC T91 is complemented for its compact design, good build quality, and useful touchscreen interface.

On the bad side, the performance is pretty slow due to it's Atom Z520 processor. Laptop Magazine reported to experience some lagging when they open IE and chatted on Skype simultaneously. Besides that, it has the same disadvantage as Eee PC 1008HA which is having a battery that is not user replaceable. Some reviewers also think that the 16GB Solid State Drive, and 16GB SD Card is too small for storage space.

Dell is the latest to join the now getting extremely crowded UMPC market with their inspiron mini 9. All the basic features are there but their standard battery last for 4hrs. 9″ screen with loads of optional extras like bluetooth or upto 16Gb of SSD. Ubuntu is optional as well, the standard is XP with SP3. I still like the Lenovo Ideapad. Check it out .

Acer Aspire One

Another day, another mini notebook on the market, this time it’s from Taiwanese company Acer with it’s Aspire One. Same deal like the other mini’s, wifi, 3x usb, 8.9″ screen, 8gb SSD etc. Although this laptop is relatively cheaper than the EeePC 900 or HP miniNote at only $375 (Amazon.com).
